DJ's Story
DJ, an active duty veteran, served on several deployments in the Middle East. The intensity of those years left marks no one could see. He had faced danger, loss, and the constant strain of being on alert. When he finally returned home to his wife and children, he expected relief, maybe even peace. Instead, he found himself carrying a heaviness he couldn’t explain.

Sleep became restless. The smallest sounds could send his heart racing. He began to look for ways to quiet his mind, ways that slowly turned into harmful patterns and personal addictions. The more he struggled, the more distant his family felt. He tried to reach out for help, but support through military chaplains and psychologists wasn’t easy to schedule. The waiting, fear of preventing rank promotions, the paperwork, the feeling of being lost in the system—it all added to the weight he was already carrying.

Then someone told him about Camouflage Chaplaincy. Through several virtual chaplain sessions, DJ finally found a safe place to talk, to be honest, and to be heard. There was no fear of judgment, no red tape, just someone who understood what it feels like to come home from war but still be fighting inside.

Gradually, he learned healthier ways to cope. He broke free from the addictions that had taken hold. His marriage began to heal, and for the first time in years, his home felt peaceful again.

Today, DJ continues to serve with a new sense of balance and faith. He’s proof that with the right support, even the deepest wounds can give way to healing—and hope.
KC and SC's Story
KC and SC, a married couple, both served over a decade in the military. They had built their lives around service, shared duty, shared sacrifice, shared purpose. But when they were both discharged, the transition to civilian life hit harder than they expected.

The routines, the structure, and the sense of belonging they once knew were suddenly gone. The stress began to show at home, and the closeness they’d built over years of deployment started to fade. Like many veterans, they wanted help but couldn’t afford the cost of private counseling or therapy.

That’s when they reached out to Camouflage Chaplaincy. At first, they thought working with a chaplain was simply the only option they could afford. What they found instead was understanding, someone who spoke their language, knew the weight of transition, and could guide them through the hard conversations that began to heal their marriage.

Through regular telechaplaincy sessions, KC and SC found new ways to communicate, forgive, and reconnect. The peace they thought was lost began to return, not just between them, but within their family.

Today, they share their story so other veterans know: you don’t have to face these struggles alone. Help is here. Hope is real.
M and H's Story
M and H, a mother and a spouse, both carry the grief of losing Veteran A.

Several years ago, A served faithfully in the Middle East. When he came home, the battle within began. He struggled with post-traumatic stress and the deep wounds of moral injury. Determined to find help, he reached out through government channels, hoping for more than medication—hoping for someone to truly listen.

After months of waiting, he finally secured an appointment with a government-provided psychiatrist to talk about his suicidal thoughts. A told the doctor plainly that he wanted to end his life. But his words were dismissed. The assessment concluded he wasn’t serious. Only a few days later, A took his own life.

Since that devastating loss, Camouflage Chaplaincy has walked alongside his mother, his widow, and their children, providing grief care, spiritual support, and a listening ear as they navigate the long journey of healing.

Their story is a heartbreaking reminder that too many veterans and families slip through the cracks. No one should have to face that kind of pain alone.
